Drysuit Rental Cost

I am wondering what is the average price to rent a drysuit for a weekend. I would love to continue diving this winter and have been wanting to purchase a drysuit. Unfortunately it is not in the budget right now, especially with Christmas coming up. I checked on drysuit rental at my LDS and was really suprised at the cost. They told me that if I take the drysuit class from them they knock $25 off the weekend rental during the class and the rental was $75 during the class. That means to rent one for the weekend any other time would cost $100. I couldn't believe it would cost so much for a rental. It wouldn't take too many weekend rentals to pay for something like a Bare NexGen at that rate, so for now I'm planning on saving my money to buy my own rather than rent. I'm wondering if this rental price is really high or about average? The only rental suit they offer is the DUI rental suit which kinda makes sense with the zip seals and such.

dry suit are expensive to buy and repair, you already know that, they you need to get the jumpsuit for warmth which are also expensive. I know sometime you can get some used drysuit for a very good price.

I'd say save for it if it cost that much. At that rate how much diving will you do anyway?

If I had my own drysuit, I probally dive once at least once a week through the winter with it. The cost of purchase is the way to go I think.

Yep, can't imagine the cost of rental equipments. On our checkout dive last October, some of the students told me just by renting their wetsuit they were charged $35 per day and will going to use it for 3 days. And they were surprised when I told them I bought my full wetsuit 4/3 mm at Scubatoys for $79 and it's all mine.

Now figure that out how much you think they charge for Drysuit.

With a drysuit, fit is everything and chances are you will not find a great fitting rental. I took my drysuit class in a rental and did not enjoy it as much as I should have due to the poor fitting suit. Now that I own a custom drysuit, I love diving dry. Unless the water is in the 80's, I'm dry. They are well worth the purchase.

Out in San Diego it runs about $50.00 a day for the dry suit, undergarments and rockboots. If you're planning on diving weekly, it'd probably be best to bite the bullet and buy one. Maybe you can even find a 0 percent finanace option and just plug in the $50.00 a day that you'd spend renting.

Here it costs $80.00 for a weekend including underwear and boots. If you think you will be using it on a weekly basis, I would save up for one. Or rent one for one weekend to see if you like the features it has so that one you do get your own, you will have some idea what you like. The only time I rented was for my dry suit certification dives and I ordered my own shortly after. Actually, it just came in on Friday and I want to get it in the water!!

It is big investment, but if you will be using it weekly, it would be a good investment!
