DUI Rock Boots or Bare Trek Boots?

Hello,
I just purchased a D/S and I am torn between the Rock Boots and the Trek boots. I would like your thoughts on which one you prefer and why. Thanks

My Bare came with the Trek boots, so I wear them.

To me, a boot is a boot is a boot, with nothing really differentiating them as far as I can tell when wearing them outside of proper fit.

Have you taken a Dry Suit class yet? It's a whole different style of diving--at least that's what I discovered!

I'm not familiar with Trek boots, but I have rock boots made by Whites. You need a bigger foot pocket and will likely need to get an additional set of fins to accommodate them. However if you go with a DUI suit there boots fit my regular fin foot pockets and eliminates the need to buy more fins.

Well they really are different- my wreck diving instructor had the BARE trek boots from a few years ago, and his had a really rugged outsole, like a hiking boot. Mine are from last year and are fairly smooth. If I could get a pair of the older ones, I would, they would make shore dives so much easier...

I have heard that you can also wear a pair of converse shoes and still be able to use a normal size fin. Anybody wearing the converse?

How much does a "boot" change the foot pocket size? I would like to wear hard sole boots when I dive, I do a lot of shore diving and the soft soles just don't cut it, but I really don't want to buy new fins (I'm on a fairly tight budget right now).

May I suggest an alternative solution? I used to have rock boots - didn't like them at all. I had the feet cut out of my dry suit and replaced with turbo soles. I LOVE them. Wow...what a world of difference. (1) Fewer pieces of gear to pack (2) very comfy (3) won't fall off (4) velcro straps help reduce\eliminate air to my feet (5) no need to have multiple pairs\sizes of fins

For a description follow this link then click "Turbo Soles with Ankle Straps."
DUI's Accessory Selector - Installed Drysuit Accessories

Who knows...maybe it'll be the right choice for you? Hope to help

Thanks Matt..I dive a Bare XCD2 Tech so I am thinking DUI would have a problem with putting turbo soles on them. I think I am going to try the Converse route, that way maybe I can keep my xl Jets. Thanks for everyones suggestions.

Yes, they probably would . What I was thinking..but didn't state very clearly...is that your LDS might be able to do the conversion. My DUI suit was off purchased off the rack. My LDS did all the conversion work. Of course, it helps that my dry suit is made of the same neoprene as the turbo soles. But, I think they could have done it if I had a trilam suit as well. You never know. Anyways...good luck with your decision!
