Neoprene neck seal

How do you know if the neck seal is too small or not? I have a used DS with a neoprene neck seal and man is it tight to get over my head.

If to stretch a bit, and you don't have a cylinder available. Any other suggestions?

Thanks all.

When pulling the neo neck seal over your head....fold it down to the 'outside' prior to pulling it on....then fold it 'in' for your dive. You don't want it so tight as to restrict our blood flow our breathing of course!....they do come in different sizes and can be replaced by ds repair services.

When I have it on it is tight, but not bad to bother with breathing or blood flow. But getting it on and off, I feel like I'm about to break my nose for how tight it is. But I am also a pretty thin guy so I feel that I shouldn't want to stretch too much or get a bigger size. Fill in your own fat head joke here.

I no what your talking about...I use a neo neck seal and wonder what I will do if I get stuck 'in there' pulling it on/off--lol!.....hopefully it is just a case of getting used to it over repeated usage.

Can a neck seal be too long? When I roll down into itself, it is still very high on my neck. You can see a bulge at the base of the neck also.

Also, the seal is too tight. I am think of stretching it out tonight.

If you need to stretch it and don't have a scuba cylinder available, try to find anything round that is close to the 7.25" diameter of a standard cylinder. I've heard of people using coffee tins, although that seems big as I think about it, so be sure to check the measurement so you don't over-stretch anything.

I just stretched last night. I used one of the scott air cylinders we wear (firefighter).

It's still a tight fit around my neck. I guess I'll just have to get used to it.

Sometimes I begin to feel claustrophobic trying to get my head out of the DS.

You might consider having it replaced with a size that fits better for you.

Okay, I'll show my ignorance here. How do you know what is the correct size? I mean, you want it tight so water doesn't get down there. The neck seals don't come in Large, med & small do they?

If I was to get it replaced, I am tempted to go to latex. Opinions?

I prefer latex. Leaks are more rare and they cost less to replace. OTOH, they are considerably more fragile and will need replacing more often... and some people are allergic to latex.

Leave your suit on the tank overnight again, and perhaps try a larger diameter tank (like an 8" tank vs. 7.25"). No hard and fast rule where too tight ends and too loose begins, other than you don't want it so loose it leaks, but you don't want it so tight you're restricting your carotid artery. At some point it has to be a judgment call of what works for you. Someone at your LDS with more drysuit experience may be able to feel how snug it is and offer advice, however.
