Question Buying used DUIs on E-bay?

I was looking at E-bay and saw a pretty good selection of used DUI drysuits on E-bay and was looking for a 350 in men's large(I tried one on at my LDS and it fits great).
How has that worked for some of you? Have you gotten some good deals shopping on E-bay for DUIs?

THANKS!

Does it have the new zip seals? I tried one of those at Dog Days and it won't go over my head.

The one for rental at my LDS has zip seals on it. I was looking for a used suit that was in good condition. I know I can add the zip seals later if I want to.

No warranty on anything purchased on eBay, as a general rule, and definitely not with a drysuit.

Something to keep in mind. DUI suits have a SEVEN YEAR warranty when purchased new from a legit authorized dealer. That warranty covers pretty much any defect. Keep that in mind if you buy a used suit... if the zipper needs replacing, you're going to be out many hundreds of dollars to repair it, whereas if you bought it new, it would be a free fix.

IMO, never spend more than a thousand on a used drysuit, no matter how much it cost new, especially with regard to DUI suits, in no small part due to the value lost in losing the warranty. The balance may differ a bit with other brands, since I think DUI has the longest warranty in the business, but definitely keep that in mind.

All that said, my personal opinion is that the ability to upgrade to zipseals, which no other brand offers, brings a lot of inherent value to the name of DUI.

Yeah I wish I had zip type seals for my DS.. It is a pinnacle.. Even if you buy it used. It is a good idea to have your LDS do a full maintenance/check on the suit. You don't want to dive with a non fully functioning suit.

I have not bought any thing "diving related" on ebay but I have bid on some things, I think if you look and do your homework about what you are buying, you'll be OK.

From what I have heard, be careful. There are some really good deals and then there are some suits needing repairs.

As an example, a friend has a CF200, bought new. She sent it in after having a few leaks in the knee after 6.5 years and DUI gave her a new suit due to defective colored material. She ended up keeping the suit because she needed it on short notice and DUI had a 4 week lead time on her new one. It could end up on ebay and you'd be stuck with a suit with defective material.

Then again, I got a Dive Rite suit I demo'd for $600 in person. I knew I'd need a new zipper eventually but compared to retail, it was a bargain. (zipper is around $200 installed)

Ebay has some great deals, but you need to figure in the cost of new seals to anything you purchase. Since there's no warranty on resold suits, pray that the zipper is in good condition. That's the most expensive repair on a suit, especially with the DUI front zips, which are longer than a back zip zipper. I purchased my suit new and all that I can say is that I am so impressed with DUI's customer service and warranty work that they earned a client for life. Of course it does help that I live in San Diego and can drive straight to the shop in the event of any issue.
