A little classroom. I watched a short video and took a test. If you have never been in a drysuit, you will need to do some pool time and then 2 open water dives. Skills - buoyancy and how to get out of bad situations such as feet up positions. Really nothing to it. I did mine all in one day, but I have dove in drysuits prior to the class; so, we were able to go over some things a little quicker.

You will have no problems with it. The first time I was ever in one was in my Dry Suit Course and it was not that hard. Just one more thing to think about and just like your BC it becomes second nature pretty quickly as to when you need to add and dump air. Take the class and join the rest of us on the dark (although dry) side....

In colder climes, they teach OW class with drysuits. One of the big benefits of certification is you'll actually be able to rent a drysuit if you need. Funny thing, even if you buy 10 drysuits from them, a shop won't rent you one if you don't have the certification.

I just got a drysuit, but don't have any plans to get a c-card. Everything I hear and read from avid divers tells me to treat the drysuit differently than taught in most drysuit classes (use drysuit for buoyancy vs add just enough air to take off the squeeze and use your BC for buoyancy).
I have some time in the pool, will spend some time in the quarry, and then move up to some time in the ocean. I think the only time you need a card is if you want to rent a drysuit. Rich |
