Is it possible that it isn't really all about what we eat and more about how we balance that with what we do? Most of us (in a universal sense) lead very sedentary lives (compared to several decades ago). Those that don't usually have to make a significant personal effort to be more active. How easy is it for most of us to sit throughout most of our work day?
Just my thoughts. But I know if I really want to have that second helping of dessert (or the first, for that matter), it better be worth the extra time at the gym. |

Nope, not the case. I still love buffets, and I try to not look around at all those people who eat ten plates of food. I just pig out, but after that I know that I'd better be willing to work it off! ![]() Those "other" people you're speaking of, they pig out, then go straight home and lay down for a nap because they ate too much. Over eating and then napping mid-afternoon is not a good combination. |

I often ask people who have problems losing weight one simple question. Do you eat until you're full or until you're not hungry. Think about it for a moment.
Big portions in restaurants have trained people to believe that a proper meal means eating until you can't eat anymore. They believe that it's only when you have to loosen your belt that you have had a satisfying meal. At the next meal, try to eat until you are not hungry. Sure you might get hungry earlier, but that will only help the metabolism as smaller meals throughout the day will help keep the metabolism high. Also, those who are used to overeating will have stretched their stomachs out. Eventually, as you eat smaller meals, the stomach shrinks so that smaller meals will feel more satisfying. Remember, it's ok to leave food on your plate. Drinking cold water throughout the day will also aid in weight-loss. In addition to burning calories as the body warms the water up, it functions to help cleanse the body. Drinking a large glass of water before a meal will also help you to eat less. |

not all obese are like that......
Have you ever watched an obese person eat? They shovel it in so fast that it is like they are expecting someone to take it away before they are finished. SLOW DOWN.
Not all obese peopel are like that at all....... I know many who dont eat anywhere near the calories or in methdos as many skinnypeople do. I was appaled when I was at a salad bar eating healthy and this 70 year old woman comes by and says " dear dont you think you have had enough" I had a small salad and cup of soup! Then she reached her hand onto my hand to force my hand down and put the plate down.... I live in Tennessee #6 on eastern side..and yes we have a majority fo morbidly obese people, that do live on " poor food" but no different than a wealthy family in knoxville at Kroger buggying up with cheetoes, hot dogs, pies and cokes.. I choose to eat healthy, primarily vegetarian and little meat and other proteins., I need to keep my kidneys... I am a big girl... size 16.. And I get loosk when i buy liquid foods and salds, fruits and healthy stuff versus junk food.. I kjnwo tehger was an initative a whiel abck to thsoe on food stamps to teach thenm to buy groceries wisely but that failed.. amny see food tsamps as a key to the junk food isle...... and thast where a majority of your heavy state sare.. if you look a majority have high unemployment and ahigh population on food stamps..... depression leads to poor food chocies.,., and that leads to depression and that leads to sedentery lifestyle... It woudl be interesting to see a study done on " healthyw eight" people becoming obese and what popualtion are out of work, on aid and how many have depression....... j |
