I had triple bypass back in 99 and have done a stress test on the Bruce protocol every year since. My last one in June was 17 mets, highest ever was 19. At 65 it gets harder and harder to stay above 13.

That's AWESOME! Sounds like you took the wake up call to heart. Good for you! This thread has me wondering how I would do on a stress test. Don't need one for medical reasons I'm just curious. I'm told that my heart looks I will live forever. If the rest doesn't get in the way....

That's funny. I've never heard that one before.

Well unfortunately there are no guarantees. Prior to needing the bypass I had been running 10 to 15 miles per week for 25+ years. The running is what clued me in that I had a problem. I started having pain about 1/2 mile into a run. I was still running two months prior to the surgery and again 8 weeks after. Now arthritis is slowing me down so it mostly walking and bike riding.

Never any guarantees about anything for any of us. True. My heart was recently looked at quite closely for non cardiac issues but no stress test. Looks like a much younger one. My labs are great too, but I credit my mediterranean diet for that.

genetics is one of the biggest factors in cardiac disease... that's why it is one of the first questions we ask in the cardiology field. If your family has cardiac disease there is a big risk of you having the disease, even more of a risk than cigarettes or high cholestrol.
