This is my first post outside of the intro...
I think fitness is VERY important to divers. By lowering your HR and increasing your excercise tolerance, you reduce air consumption, increase your ability to handle a wider range of physical demands (currents, long swims) and your level of anxiety. That said, I'm an old fat man who needs to get more fit. This is my current regimin (not counting the last month, missed due to a cross-country bicycle ride and a subsequent back injury.): 1) MWF, either a one hour fast bicycle ride or bicycle spin training. I finish with 30 min. stretching/cool down (very important to stretch. Ask me how I know...). This is high energy cardio. I've done this for 5 years and I've watched my resting HR drop 20bpm. My recovery times have been cut in half. 2)T-Th. Weight lifting and 35 min. of stair climbing. 3) Sundays...i usually ride my bicycle for 3-4 hours. This is a 65-70 mile ride. It is the ONLY way I can lose weight, since my wife is a great cajun cook and i'm a great irish eater. 4) During the summer, I try swim laps in our home pool (about 600yds, total) a few days a week. My kids make it hard to do consistantly, as they want to play any time I get in the pool. But, I try, I really do.....hehe Last edited by Rockhound76 : 08-08-2007 at 03:27 PM. |

I lift a couple of times a week (home gym) and swim laps in the pool at least 3 days a week.
I get as much "whole grain" as I can, and try to stick to lean meats and veggies as much as possible...I've dropped from 220 to 189 over the last year. It's slow but steady, need to drop 10-12 more to be where I want to be..

I don't do anything to strict - not trying to lose weight, just endurance and strength.
Generally healthy diet.. At least an hour in the pool swimming/breath holding 5+ nights a week.. Weight training 3 days of the week Good nights sleep! Keeps me active and constantly getting stronger and building more endurance! |

Squidlee...where do you road bike? I ride north of Houston most weekends. I just got back from a week long x-country ride from Houston to Orlando (via Nashville and Denmark, SC). It was a relay, not a continous ride, but it was a lot of fun.
There's nothing like coming down a mountain in north Georgia at 45mph in the dark on a bike with no lights (roadway lit by following police car escort). I kept praying, "let those be shadows, not potholes..." |

I hear that prayer but mine is normally "please
let that animal be decomposed enough not to make me barf or wonder what a blow out would fee like at xx mph." Cool - I do love those police escorts.
Regardless of that being a relay - what a distance and I'm sure great memories. We ride in the Arlington area and then do some of the local charity rides as well. Gearing up for the annual Hotter N Hell ride. We just need to decide the number of miles. Remember the rubber side is down! laura
