How to add a picture

I know how to add a picture as an attachment, but how do you add the full sized picture to the thread/reply? thanks

Use IMG tags:

[ img ]http://www.website.com/hereis/the/picture.jpg[ / img]

(I think. Yeah, I previewed it... just take the spaces out between the []'s and the IMG and /IMG.)

The above used these tags:

[ IMG ]http://mwhities.dirdivers.com/images/dir_-_gear/suunto_vyper/dsc02341.JPG[ /IMG ]

Upload it somewhere. The Scubatoys Photo Gallery works fine for this.
Copy the real url for the picture. The Scubatoys gallery shows this in the direct link code window below your image. Other sites like Photobucket or your own website will work equally well.

Click the Image Icon - the little yellow button at the top of this window that looks like trees with the sun overhead. Paste the code in the window for this result:

For reference the code for this image is:
http://forum.scubatoys.com/gallery/f...ilepic92_1.jpg

Why would you want to do so? Using attachments allows the reader to quickly scroll down through the responses. Sometimes, folks in-line huge photos. Then, somebody else quotes them with the same huge photo; so, now it's there twice. Then somebody else quotes and so on and so on.

Bottom line: use attachments. It's cleaner. That's why they're there. If a reader is interested in your image, they'll click on the attachment. Otherwise, you just piss them off..

If you go into your user CP (link on top left) and edit your signature, just below the typing area is a place to upload an image or link to an image. There is a limitation on the size - but no problem putting in a small one!

Are you sure? If so, I think I'm going blind

Need to be able to add pictures so we can display those cool countdowns to our dive trips!

Sorry Rick, gonna have to dissagree with you here. I absolutely hate clicking on attachments. I'm not a computer genius by any means, but I'm always afraid of viruses when I click on attachments. I'm sure there are gonna be at least 6 people tell me why I shouldn't worry about that....but I do. I haven't uploaded any pics on the ST photos, but if you upload on photobucket, you can choose a size that is made for forums or email. They are the perfect size. Anyway, just gonna pipe in on that.

Help me to understand what you're saying. How does clicking on an attachment make you vulnerable to viruses? Actually, you are less vulnerable if it is an attachment. Attachments on the forum are stored on the forum server. The attachment thumbnail simply points to that image file. If you refer to an off-site image host, this opens you up to potentially loading a virus. I know; I've written those (not viruses per se, but applications that execute when you view an in-line image; didn't even have to click on it). I've spent over 37 years in the computer business as an applications developer, web developer, manager, etc. This is my business and expertise.
