Vote feature

It seems many people are asking what dive gear people have. It is nice know but if there is voting section that people can vote what they have and they can add it if item is not listed.

I don't know if there is already there or not but I think it will be nice feature.

that would be a very complicated system. can you imagine how many different brand names and then how many different styles, models, and variations for each brand? then think about that huge number being multiplied for each gear type, such as BCDs, Regulators, Fins, Masks, etc. That would be a list of 100's of items.
If you really want some controversy, try to convince someone your brand is better than his/her brand.
And of course, there are those who will dive with the first thing they bought until it either wears out completely or they give up diving. Then those who think they need something different every 3 months.
If this poll stays up too long, some of those who change may have to re-vote.
And what about the people who use different gear for different dives?

Can't you get the same thing by looking at people's profile in the gear info section?

Yea, you can. but some folks like me don't have all my gear listed-just not enough space. Besides, if I list some stuff that I still use on occasion I may get royally flamed. Like my Voit single hose regulator.

I hear you. I still use my old Sportways regulator occasionally. It's worked flawlessly for the last 30 years and I have a lot of confidence in it, but just don't like to admit that I still use it in public.

Yah...If try to cover "all", it is ridiculous. If set some limits (i.e. Time limit - open for a week), it may not so bad. Get some idea of what is the most popular one...

The problem is there are only 10 choices possible in the vote selection process. Look at my drysuit poll for example and you will see that I list many other brands but could only choose 10 to vote on.

You will also notice people ask what's popular, but if they read the thread they'd already have the answer. Out of site out of mind is what I'm saying and unless it's a sticky won't help anyhow.
