I'm all for a dedicated review section with positive and negative reviews. I think we should be able to see it all before we buy something.

Btw, I agree with you that clutter would be a huge issue to consider in a forum-based product review system. Personally, I also think user reviews should be centered on the product detail pages of the retail site so they can benefit the most people, and further questions and discussions handled in the appropriate product category or manufacturer's sub-forum.

Some sites have a system that automatically repost articles and reviews into a sub-forum for discussion. Those tend to be a bit out of the way but it is definitely something to think about.

Sears has user product reviews for their online sales.

I also agree reviews should be placed alongside products on the web page. Forum works, but it'll save plenty of hassle trying to look through pages over pages and non-review related dialogs!

Does anyone know enough about web design to know if integrating a review system into the store page would be a huge undertaking or not? The reason for suggesting a forum based review system was for the simplicity and ease of creation. I do think that having it integrated into the store site would be a far superior method, but might be a lot of work.

Actually, we're going through a re-work of the site, and it will have that...
