Florida Spearing Laws

Is it illegal to spearfish off of public beaches. I always get two different stories. Some people say 100-200 feet offshore and others say no you can't. Does anyone know the actual answer?

100 yards from a public swimming beach, commercial or public fishing pier, or any part of a bridge where public fishing is allowed

Probably the confusion arises because the distance limits make it unfeasible in the minds of some. Plus, if you come crawling up the beach holding a spear gun and a stringer of fish and run into a game warden, you are going to have to convince him you were more than 100 yards offshore. Some would rather just avoid the hassle and go offshore on a boat.

i don't think you're allowed on the beach with a speargun, polespear or any of the sort...
me and Issac (eyezz) were going in for a shore dive (it was a nasty day with bad viz... so much fun.. maybe he'll chime in) and he had his lobster stuff.. up comes a guy in a 4 wheeler, in uniform and says "you can't have any spears on the beach.. oh... looked like a spear... sorry... be safe" and rode off.

Oh that sucks. It is better to just go on a boat.
