We must be careful in not giving bad information on freediving that can be dangerous.

The SCUBAToys new Freediving Forum is an excellent source for information exchange and should not be used by a TROLL for his self entertainment.

I don't understand the purpose of your post. What trolls are you talking about?

The purpose of this thread is in the title - Beginning Freediving.

The warning about Trolls.
There are forum users from SB that are now posting on ST.

They at times make claims for their self entertainment. They may not be here for information exchange but to present a point of view whether it is knowledgeable or not. This could be dangerous for a starting diver.

I think he is saying that people can come on here and give advice that can be deadly. I remember on another board, people were telling someone who was new potentially dangerous advice.

When anyone witnesses people doing this they should hit that report post button and the Mods will take care of ASAP.

It is really f****d up that anyone would do something like that. Then again, with the anonymity of the internet and the type of people out there, I guess I can't be too surprised. Duly noted however, and thanks for the heads up.

I think it's more of people who have no experience try something, get lucky, and assume it is safe for everyone to try. And if they have really arrogant personalities they will most likely think they are right. Then a professional freediver will come in and tell them they are wrong, and a huge war will start. lol

What deadly advice was it. So that we know what not to do.

Link to Freediving in Kelp Safety

Free Diving in Kelp

Posted in multiple threads. There are about 7 Abalone freediver deaths a year on our coast Sonoma and Mendocino Counties, California.

It may be natural causes. Older males heart attacks. Many are found with their weight belts on. It may be that recreational divers that are not comfortable negotiating kelp on SCUBA are freediving it. Or out of shape divers without a competant buddy. Who knows.

Always dive with a buddy. The conditions can be rough and visibility poor. Do not over weight like on SCUBA. Take it easy, assess the situation, and do not freedive past ones capabilities and experience.

I am an avid freediver and consider myself very comfortable in the water on a breath hold. This, however, does bring to light the ignorance that one can exhibit in an activity they feel so comfortable within. As I said, I am a very comfortable freediver but am COMPLETELY IGNORANT on the subject of kelp and its inherent dangers. The closest thing around my area that I can closely relate it to would be hydrilla. Thanks for the reminder that different environments can put such a twist on one's comfort level as to make their experiences a danger.
