I just learned something new....

Aluminum is the most abundant metal in the earths crust... it is also the 3rd most abundant element, with only oxygen and silicon just ahead of it...

Before you do bin this thread its worth considering the most dangerous aspect of using high pressure equipment... that is complacancy! How many people who dive actually consider what they have strapped to their backs?

I work with high pressure equipment and had a olive from a s/s compression fitting (rated >475bar) fitted to 1/4 inch wall s/s tubing coil (also rated >400bar) fail at 300bar. The tube whipped bolt straight... all 6 coils of it... within a second... this is strong stuff and cant be bent by hand!

Moral of the story, take good care of your cylinder, dont bang it or roll it around. If you suspect it has taken a knock dont wait for its next inspection date to have it pressure tested, for the sake of a few quid (dollars, bucks etc) have it looked at straight away.
