Yes. She was born in Alabama. remember the city? (EMT prob knows it if he used to bike there as a kid).[/quote]
I'm really starting to love google maps. Over the past few weeks I've become a virtual traveler. So to help get you hooked click the link below. (I was in San Antonio, Tx a few minutes ago at the Alamo and now I'm in Alabama virtually) Pick up the the little yellow fellow and place him on North Commons and move west about 300 yard to get to see the fence with birthplace of Helen Keller written on it. Play with the arrows to get a 360 degree view if you have not tried it before. And of course get hooked & go elsewhere around the U.S. Either pick the man up to move him or double click a spot ahead in the road and you will go there. Great news, it saved my location when I moved the guy so you are right in front of the gate.....Yea. Have fun.... helen keller Tuscumbia, al - Google Maps

correct. Also, ironically I saw this in the news over the weekend. thought I'd share it with this thread. Helen Keller statue to be placed in U.S. Capitol in October Posted by Mary Orndorff -- The Birmingham News July 23, 2009 12:07 PM WASHINGTON -- A huge bronze statue of Helen Keller, Alabama's contribution to the artwork of the U.S. Capitol, will arrive in Washington this fall, according to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi of California. The unveiling ceremony is scheduled for Oct. 7. "As a deaf-blind individual who was a world leader in disability rights and social justice, and a woman ahead of her time, Helen Keller will be a proud addition to our halls," Pelosi told a Wednesday meeting of the American Association of Americans with Disabilities. "We will also reaffirm our commitment to her life's work: to ensure that opportunities are available to individuals with disabilities." The statue, commissioned by Gov. Bob Riley and paid for with $325,000 in contributions from individuals and corporations, will be in the sky-lit main hall of the new Capitol Visitors Center. Each state is allowed to memorialize two of its most significant residents in marble or bronze in the Capitol, and for decades those decisions were irreversible, leaving the Capitol with hardly any women, minorities or figures from more recent history. Congress changed the law in 2002 and states were free to swap out statues, opening the door for Riley to pursue the Keller statue. Keller will replace one of Jabez Lamar Monroe Curry. The 19th century educator's statue will be relocated to Samford University. Along with the Alabama State Council on the Arts, Keller's descendants agreed to commission a statue of Keller as a little girl at the water pump, the powerful image made famous by ''The Miracle Worker,'' the play and movie telling Keller's life story. |

That's odd, I thought the Helen Keller statue was supposed to resemble the attitude of the general population to the actions of those in elected office.
