Depends on the size of the boat and how rough the seas are. In perfectly flat water, you could get away with changing batteries in a row boat. In rougher seas, you'd need a fairly big boat with a large enclosed cabin, then it's no problem.

It has been awhile since I used this camera but some (do not remember if this one has the option) have the option to turn down the om-board flash where it does not fire at full power.

Mine had to go back for repair. Twice while I was transferring pictures from the camera to the computer I experienced, afterward, that the camera screen was blank (white). While it seemed to be working and even taking pictures there was no display on the screen. The first time it happened I was able to use the software CD that came with the camera to do a repair and it fixed it right away. The second time the repair would not work.
I sent it back to Joe and he sent me his display model of their Sealife DC 800 to play with and use while mine is out. Sweet, thanks Joe!! Anyway I have not gotten any word back about the condition of the camera as of this post. |

My DX 1200HD
I bought this camera with housing, stay and one slave strobe after some considerable research. I'm a point and shoot kinda gal, new to underwater photography and so did not want a lot of monkey business with my first u/w setup.
I bought this camera three weeks ago, just prior to leaving for a dive vacation to Jamaica. I found the camera underwater usability excellent. Nice and easy, just the way I like it. If only the fish would co-operate! I was really meticulous with the seal for the housing and had no problems with usage down to 75 ft. A Dessicant packet inside the housing was a must in the warm Jamaican climate. My only complaint would be the battery life of the camera as it crapped out mid way through our third dive of the day and I had only taken about 60 photos. The software included with the camera is great too, easy to use and made my OK first attempts look great. For topside photos, the camera is OK, but I prefer my Canon point and shoot. Let me know what you think... |

I think your photos are very good. You did not mention what strobe you were using but I don't see where you were getting much out of it. Were you having any issues with it?
As far as the battery three dive is not bad but 60 photos is on the low side. Do you have it set to shut off after a amount of time? You can set the review to 1 sec or shut it off completely, the LCD takes a lot of power. Don't waste power deleting photos while on a dive, do this at night or just save all of them until you can download, there might be a keeper that did not look so good on the LCD. Over all these are great photos for the first time, a lot better than I did.

Hi all
I'm just about to buy an underwater camera. Ive been looking on the Dx-1200HD with u/w case and Canon G10 with wp-dc28 . The price of the two are almost the same. Whichever camera i choose, ill also get the YS-17 package to get better light. Which of the two should a beginner like me go for? I do want the best possible quality pictures:P, but hd video seems cool also.. I'm going to the red sea in a month and currently working in Singapore, so i can get a camera for a good price .Anyone got some advice for a noob! thanks! |

Hi, I recently bought a DX1200HD. I have been trying to operate it manually but with no succes. You're supposed to select the program mode in the menu but for some reason this is not working. I can see the program icon in the display but have no idea how adjust the settings manually.
Any suggestions? |
