Mask camera

I was pretty impressed last year when I tried on a mask with a built-in dive computer. I couldn't afford it, and it seemed to be an ingenious solution to a non-existant problem (I'm not too lazy to look at my wrist or console), but it was cool nonetheless. Well, yesterday in my LDS I came across a mask with a camera built in. I think it was called "Liquid Image" or something. This makes sense to me. First, I wouldn't have to have a camera hanging off of my BCD, and it would always be handy. Plus, it would always be looking where I am. The shop owner said that they have a way to add a strobe, but he didn't have pricing or a catalog at the time. The basic unit didn't seem outrageously expensive (around $300). Has anyone tried one?

Is this the camera?

I can give several criticalities:
While an interesting concept, it only goes to 15' snorkeling I could see, but Scuba? No.

The crosshairs would bug the living hell out of me!!!

Has a kind of Megatron look to it....

That's sort of it. I was told that they have different depth ratings (and get more expensive as you get deeper capabilities); the one I looked at was good to 33', but the shop had just sold one that could go to 115'. Also, the one I saw was clear and didn't look so geeky (still unusual, but closer to a regular mask).

Okay, I didn't look for a clear one, but here's a link to the 115' one in blue. Available online for $255.

Still has the megatron look to it though...I say if you want try it, go for it! Still, would hate to lose a $225 mask.

I'm taking it that's a digital? Unless there's a screen not shown in that pic, you won't be able to review your shots while underwater. Also, there may be times you're wanting a close-up of a creature you might not be comfortable putting your face that close to. Not trying to talk you out of this gadget, but I would REALLY like to see a pic of you on a dive with strobes mounted to your head if you get this rig.

I'm not seriously considering it; I just thought it was interesting. I can see the appeal and think it could work, but I'm too short on cash right now to blow 3 bones on something I may not like.

Sorry...didn't mean to laugh...just got tickled picturing a diver going thru the water with arms and strobes protruding from his head. It would be a nice option to not have to deal with all the gear in your hands just to get some keepsake shots...but yeah, I'm tired of shelling out cash just to find out I don't like something too.

I had a brief fascination with the HUD computer mask, but I don't like to combine such things because it makes it difficult for backup scenarios. I guess that's one of the drawbacks for the camera mask too. You have a mask failure with it, so you switch to a plain mask for backup...and then, you spend the next dive swimming around pointing your broken mask at sea critters.
