Canon G11 Housing

I just bought a Canon G11 and I want to pick up a housing for underwater snapshots. I see a strobe in my future, but nothing too fancy. I am contemplating the Canon housing since it is much cheaper than the Ike housing (which won't be available for a few months). Plus, I am not sure that this is the camera that I will hang on to for many years anyway.....is my thinking messed up?

Your thinking is not messed up but this all depends on what you want to spend vs. what you want out of it. There will be more housings available shortly for this camera. One of the things to consider is if you will want close up and wide angle options and if this will be an option for the Canon housing, another consideration is what strobe and how will it be attached to the housing. Personally I do not like the tape/Velcro option that you have with the manufacture housing and I am not a fan of the slave sensor strobes.

Since there are not other housings released at this time I would research what is available for the G10 and figure these same offerings will most likely be available for the G11 and figure what will be best for you in the long run.

As far as wide angle I believe there a couple of wet lenses out now that can offer more than the original 24mm options that these cameras were limited to. Contact Ryan at Reefphoto.com and ask what they here will be available.......

This IMO will be a very popular U/W camera set up so please post any information you find and a review when you get an oppertunity.....

The FIX and Patima housings were very popular.

This is the camera I am considering as well. Wow, those prices are pretty high. But if you look at the canon housing, there are barely any options for it. No strobe option unless you rig it yourself from what I'm seeing. Amazing how this hobby costs so much. At least it is rewarding enough to justify it.

Canon is the only option currently shipping for the G11, so that's great to get your feet wet and get started now. Personally, I'd look into some of the other housings, down the line, and keep the OEM housing as a backup option, but there's plenty of time to deal with that as the options come to market.

Zen Underwater 105° Wet-mount Wide Angle Lens for Canon G10/G11

Zen Underwater's new WWA-105 lens answers the demand for a superior 67mm wet-mount lens designed specifically for compact cameras with a native 28mm FOV.
When mounted to the Patima housing for the Canon G10/G11 this lens yields a spectacular 105° FOV, with outstanding corner sharpness and no vignetting.

I wonder if this would work with the 67mm threads on the Ikelite S90 housing?

That would be great, can't see why not. Might cause some slight vignetting depending on the port length. I would contact Reef and ask...

It would be cool if you could find a 67mm convertion ring so you could use the Inon 165AD Fisheye.
