Refresher Question

Can a NAUI Certified diver take a PADI refresher?

Reason: A friend is NAUI and the only thing they offer at our military installation is PADI. It has been a few years since he has been diving due to trips to the sand box {Iraq} and Afghanistan and injuries while in those places and needs a refresher.

Thanks for info you can give.

***No flaming about NAUI vs PADI vs SSI please! Some of us had no choice here in Germany on the Military Installation***

Hugs and peace

I don't see why the other option is you and he can hop in a pool swim around for a bit you get him comfortable and then do an easy shallow shore dive to build the skills back up.

Actually a Naui diver can teach a Padi Instructor refresher.

Ok, Ok.. you said no flames. The real answer is sure. A refresher is just that - an instructor will hop in the water and make sure you're comfortable clearing a mask, air sharing, buoyancy, etc.

Now in your Naui Course, you do some skills that Padi doesn't - like the rescue portions - so don't expect them to cover those unless you ask to do that.

Refreshers (at least at my shop) are tailored to the needs of the student. If you feel you need work on this or that.... we will work on those areas until you're comfortable.

Speaking as a PADI instructor, absolutely yes! And FWIW given the circumstances and depending on the divers prior experience I might be inclined to make it a confined OW session review of skills followed by an easy guided dive. Sign the waivers, buy the first round at lunch or coffee afterwards and we'll call it square. Thank you for your service to your country!

Thanks for the information.
And thanks for not flaming one organization over the others. I hate it when people do that. In joking when you are with friends if you are 2 different then ok but there are some people that REALLY get mad.

I have been in Germany for 8 years, married to military for 10 on the 19th and my hubby has deployed 11 times in 15 years. So we went with what was offered on the Army post in between deployments and back yard camping trips.

I personally think it doesn't matter what you are {NAUI, PADI, or SSI} as long you know what you are doing when you go diving.

We are going to Croatia the end of August-September and while we are there we are going to do the AOW.

There's no cert or actual training involved in a refresher, so as long as you have a ccard from somewhere, anyone can take it.

Plus, in addition, when I did my AOW, we did a skills review in the pool as well.

Heck for service you gave to this country I'd teach you a refresher free of charge for the rest of your life and even carry your tanks to the pool and wash out your gear!
