emergency accent
random question and there prob isnt a clear cut answer but you never know lol.when you do an emergency accent, your supposed to breath out all the way up, how do you not run out of air before you reach the surface if your breathing it all out?.i know the other option is not an option but just wondered if there is a technique to it ?.

You do not realease all the air from your lungs during an emergency ascent. you just release small bubbles as you ascend to the surface. I was very surprised at how far you can make it just releasing small bubbles as you ascend.

In an emergency, I use a British accent, sometimes crossing over to Irish.
![]() As far as ascents, though, NAUI also teaches to say the "Ahhhh" sound to open the throat so that air can escape as it expands in the lungs.

As for the original question, humming is a good way to allow air to escape in a controlled fashion during an out-of-air ascent. This is not an issue, obviously, if your lungs were largely emptied before you discovered that you were out of air. |
