Thunder Bay

Just got back from a couple days diving up north in Thunder Bay and had a great time. Capt Frank with Great Lakes Dive Charters was great and comes highly recommended. (he has a crane on his boat for lifting doubles!!!)

Got to dive the E. B. Allen, the Thew, the Grecian, the Montana and the Colonel Sanders Barge. Great vis on the deeper wrecks and absolutely beautiful lake conditons.

Now, to plan the next trip and hit a few more.......

Sounds like fun

Visited Split Rock Lighthouse last year, one look at that water and I cant forget it. I will have to dive Lake Superior, no other solution.

I don't know if you know this or not, but when standing at the light house at Split Rock and looking to the next point to the north. Laying at the base of the cliff is the wreck of the Madeira.

Any pictures or video from the dive? I will be diving with a group this Saturday on those same wrecks. It will be my first time on the wrecks and was curious what to expect.

We will be with the same charter as well!

Here is a link to information on the Madeira access you need to check in at Split Rock Lighthouse ranger station and get a day pass. You will need to show a C-card and they will give you the combination to the lock.
Much, much easier to get down to the water now. In to "old" days you had to walk from the highway, and most years through some swampy areas.
Have fun, Al

Sorry - no pics. We just dove for fun. Expect bottom temps in the low/mid forties and definitely dive in the AM. We were blessed with flat conditions for the morning but it starting picking up midday.
