That shop just does not want to do things the 'right way'.

I'd be gone before they could ask me to close the door on the way out.

Even if you did take the repair course, what are the chances that the shop will buy the tools needed to do the job right?

Surely, no better than the chance that the shop will pay for the course.

Sounds like the shop and the job sucks but you want to leave on your own terms and don't burn any bridges if it can be avoided.

It's funny, but many times those shops know lots of important people and if you upset the owner you'll burn so many bridges you couldn't even dream of.

I think a graceful exit is best then.

Given the clues I have read here and there, and like I said in the other thread, I wouldn't spend much of my own money here. It doesn't sound promising. Especially if the other employees buy elsewhere, that in itself says way more about the shop than anything else you could say. Certainly when they give the illusion of support by buying similar brands, that's so sad.

I would only do the course if "I" wanted the personal knowledge for my own benefit. To be honest I might do it on my own, and I probably will at some point. Just for me.

Ouch. I've got to echo the comments of others here.

Head for the exit but make sure that you are on good terms with them when you leave.

If you need to, you could make the lack of training money why you're leaving. Ie, "you want to be able to advance by having more skills to contribute more but don't see a cost effective way to do it. If you had to pay for training but there was an agreement up front about your reimbursement for doing the work that would give you more motivation to stay."
