Can't fit 1st stage over K-valve

Has anyone run across this problem? Everyone I talk to has the same baffled look I did when I found out. I got a new tank with a standard K valve from ST, and when I went to put my reg onto it, the cage around the opening of the 1st stage hits the back of the tank valve. So I looked at my other tank and the valve on that one has a bevel on the back to fit the cage on the first stage. I haven't tried other regs on the new valve yet, but it seems odd. What am I missing?

I'm not sure what you mean by cage? What brand regulator are you using? I've seen flat and beveled and never had a problem using either when I used Yoke style hookups.

Out of curiosity, is the valve DIN with a yoke insert, or a standard yoke?

I saw a guy with a Tusa 130 Yoke and a faber cylinder with the convertable valve and they did not work either...I guess certain faber vavles were fat and would not fit certain regs. Another person in the same group used his Zeagle DSV on that tank and it was fine.

Some of the older yokes are simply too small to fit over the 200 bar convertible pro valve types. They will work on your standard valves.

Change your yoke out.

I didn't actually check to see if it was din with an adapter. What does ST usually sell with their tanks? I have an older US Divers reg.

on us diver reg the yoke can be screwed up and down, try unscrewing it so it gives more room for the valve to fit in.

It probably depends on the tank. In my experience, steel tanks are usually sold with DIN valves. LP tanks often have 200 bar convertible valves, and HP tanks typically have 300 bar DIN-only.

Here's a before & after. Notice the gap between the yoke & reg body on the 2nd picture. This gains you probably 1/8 to 1/4 inch.

EDIT: For what it's worth, I can attach it (Conshelf XIV) to my 200 bar convertible yoke in either position. I also tried a calypso VI which has a non movable yoke, a conshelf VI, and an Aquadiv from the early 60's, and I could attach them all. Is it possible you have a 300 bar din valve?
