How do I stop a freeflow on Mares Rebel Octo?

I have had my MAres Rebel OCto serviced at LDS and it still leaks a steady stream of bubbles with the plug style octo holder in place. It will free flow if I turn it up at depth... Any suggestions?

Bring it back to the LDS and tell them to do a better job.

It sounds to me like your octo holder is not allowing all the air to exit the octo thus making it vulnerable to freeflow when it is turned up at depth and a little more air is released. Before you descend, remove the octo from its holder and make sure there is not air trapped inside before you replace it. Then do a leak check to make sure it is OK. If it is still leaking slightly, you'll need to chek IP and adjust IP and/or cracking pressure. If the leak is stopped, it may be fine, but if you bump the purge button, the problem may reoccur. A little detuning may be necessary but it is better to avoid that and retain as much performance as possible as long as the freeflow problem can be controlled.

Please let us know how it works out.

When I had an octo holder I took a punch and punched out little holes about the size of a notebook binder hole in it. It would flood with water pretty much as soon as I got in the water and no freeflows. Prior to that it would freeflow and my solution then was to keep the octo free of it until I got under and then I'd police it up.

Had the same problem with mine if I used the plug holder tha came with it. When I switched to a bulb type I noticed that a tiny steam of bubbles would come out of the bulb holder contionusly. I had to take the octo out, let it flood with water and put it back into the bulb holder while the holder was submerged. After 1 dive, it was fine if i stayed in the water during the SI. I think it just had to do with the trapped air.
Never thought about putting a hole in the holder. Might try that and see if it helps. Tanks for the info.

This is exactly the issue, and the reason I got rid of my "plug" style holder.
