Basic Maintenance

What do I have to do to my new gear to keep it working well. BC - REG - Tank - CPU - Fins - Mask - Everything! :-) I know to wash it, but i am sure there is a long list. Can I do it myself or should I pay someone?

Washing is the most important. Other then that it's minimal.

Reg and BC - bring in for service/checkup once a year

Mask, fins, snorkel. Nothing needed but rinsing. Just keep an eye on straps for wear.

I've found as long as you rinse well after every use it will last you a long time.

Here is a nice thread about BC cleaning

Here is a thread on storing fins

Here is a thread on treatment of a brand new mask. I find that toothpaste and an old toothbrush do wonders on older mask silicone when it becomes spotty or changes colors.

Here and Here are two threads on regulator storage

Here is a thread on regulator servicing

It would be nice if there were some kind of FAQ on cleaning and routine maintenance.

Taking an equipment specialty will give you a very good explanation of how to keep your gear lasting forever.

Torrey, I really like that idea It would be cool if it were a part of the forum, but in Wiki style, so people could look at one page and edit/add as needed. It sometimes gets hard to scroll through pages and pages of posts. OTOH, a single page would work quite nicely.

What could we perhaps do to go about making a FAQ? Perhaps some stickies?

I have Clay Coleman's book, and I do admit I frequently consult it for small bits of re-information (I've read, but just need a reminder). So having a FAQ would be like our version of the book.

How do you name the "link" to another post or website? I've always just copied and pasted the whole address, but how do you name it "Here"

Good question - I think it would be using the advanced editor and wrap it in HTML.

I'm going to be using {}'s in place of []'s for the following example so you can actually see it. Instead of just pasting the url between brackets such as:

{url}www.scubatoys.com{/url}

write it as follows:

{url=www.scubatoys.com}whatever you want to call your link{/url}

this will produce:

whatever you want to call your link
