inflator repair for old Sherwood BC inflator
How do I repair an old Sherwood BC inflator that is free flowing (small flow) ? I have taken apart the unit and pulled out the button and plunger (which is of course corroded) . Is there an O-ring to replace?
The local dive shop wants a small fortune to repair it. Thanks. |

Just buy a new inflator, a google search of "Sherwood power inflator" turns up one for $40 online. ST online catalog doesn't list it but call Joe, he can probably get it and match. Installing is simple.

Agree with other guys above.
Now here is a trick. If you cant' use a "standard" 1 " inflator with a Sherwood corrugated hose, Try and pick up an Atomic SS1 threaded adapter kit then buy a Zeagle inflator for it. (Scott: Why, oh why don't you offer the adapter kit for your screw on inflator and Octo-Z?)

Get the replacement inflator. Then go ahead and disassemble the leaking one. I am not familiar with the Sherwood design, but most seem to use a rubber washer to make the seal. I am more familiar with scubapro which uses a different soft seat that may be an o-ring in some versions. I believe there are also some that use another schradder valve. You may well be able to repair the old one and than you will have a ready spare. When it comes to saving dives, a spare will beat the best warranty any day.
