Yearly Service

About to take a class and purchasing a bunch of stuff ahead of time becasue I assume I will like it and do it often.
Since I am buying online to save a lot of money and get a better selection, I may not be able to get my gear serviced locally.
This may not be a wise choice, but would I be able to send my stuff to back to ST once a year (I obviously would pick up the shipping cost shipping). If I found a place around here that would service my stuff, how much should I expect to pay? And what needs to be serviced anyway? Reg, Oct, BC, Guages?
Does filling the BC with air and letting it sit for 4 days to make sure it holds air okay count as servicing?

Thanks,
James

We do a full service on the complete reg setup for $49.95 and if you get it from us, parts are free for life: http://scubatoys.com/store/regs/regrepair.asp

As far as the BC, you are pretty much right - but the other thing that you want to do is make sure there is no sticking of the inflator mechanism. Most manufacturers do not require "service" on a BC... just inspection - and that would include making sure the dumps work properly, the inflator doesn't stick, the exhaust valves don't have any sand in them and are holding, and as you said... make sure it doesn't leak.

And that's that!

Some will also argue that a annual service isn't needed. I know, somebody is going to give you a service kit for free. Well I was surprised to see that my last service kit was $8. So if I don't dive a lot and take care of my gear then I won't be sending in my regs for an annual. I know of someone that hasn't service his regs for 15 years. Now I wouldn't want to try that one.

$49.95 for annual service is a great price and a very small expense for your safety !!!

There are shops that will not service gray market goods... stuff bought from non-authorized dealers - always good to make sure whoever you are buying from is actually a dealer for that brand.

And then there are some places that sell their "own brand" so pretty hard to find a rebuild kit for a "Scuba Swamp" regulator...

And then the last point is if your local shop only deals in Oceanic, they would probably not have the parts to rebuild a Tusa, etc.

But we service all the stuff we sell, and are an authorized dealer for all the brands we carry.

That's what I find with my LDS. They service what they sell. Of course, they charge about $35 more to service a reg than scubatoys.

One thing nice was that if you bring in a receipt from another authorized dealer, they will do warranty work as well. I had the zipper break on an O'Neil suit and they took care of sending it back and getting that paperwork taking care of (although I did have to pay $8.50 S&H).

Just curious Larry, does that $50 cover service of both stages, or just one? How about the SPG?
