A good relationship with your lds is important!!!
The equipment repair specialty is quite a bit different that rebuilding a reg. Did you shop have you tear down that air2 and replace the LP seat? That's the level of service the OP was looking for

Note that there's a big difference between someone who owns a fair number of regs and gets into doing their own maintenance, and someone who has one.

If you just have one reg and you're thinking about doing this only to save money, it's probably not the way to go. And while shops certainly screw up sometimes, doing one a year isn't really a way to get good at it.

Oceanics, I know if you have oceanic parts it is virtually impossible to get service kits unless you are associated with a shop. It makes it really frustrating for instructors in remote destinations for long periods as they cannot service their own gear even though they know how because you just cant get the parts. Pay someone else a $100 to do an hours work ontop of the service kit price, no thanks. I do not endorse servicing your own gear by the way, even though I do it myself.

I used to work as a rental and repair technician (part-time) for a scuba shop on a military base in Okinawa. I attended training (Scuba Pro and Genesis) for reg repair. I was sponsored by the shop, however, others attended at their expense upon invite and sponsorship by one of the local shops. One problem I found from SCUBA-Pro (UWATEC of Johnson Outdoors) is that the companies only sell servicing and warranty parts to dive shops they hold affiliation with. I know of none that will sell direct to individuals. I am no longer employed as a technician however, I still work part-time as a Dive Master and I can purchase re-build kits from the shop. I also have a small repair room in my home with limited equipment and tools.

It is usually more cost effective to have a shop overhaul/repair your equipment and take advantage of warranty benefits unless you have a good deal of equipment on hand.
