Depends on where you are going and what the regulations are. Some places you can hunt on scuba with spear guns. Other places like the Bahamas you can't be on scuba or use spear guns. I have only been in the Bahamas and we used pole spears and free dove to get them. They like to hide out under coral heads. They seem to really like low overhangs over a sandy bottom.

i don't know what it is called but off the coast of florida you have to have a thing that i'm gonna call a "lobster key"...it is about three inches long and must be used to measure the lobster in size...from what my instructor has said, if you do not have it on your person and you are lobstering, they will take everything but the hair on your body away from you and i think he said they can arrest you (like if you are hunting deer illegally). i am not sure of these details but the reason i was asking was that i want to get into doing this. i love lobster and it can be expensive. we will have to go lobstering sometime...he said the limit was SIX lobster....but we only touched on it briefly and he was going to talk more about it later but we never got around to it. when i find out more i'll let you know...he goes off of Vero Beach to lobster and says thats a great place to go.

\Plastic Lobster Gauge at Divers Direct Best tool for catching them: Scuba Gear and Scuba Diving Equipment - Discount dive gear I use a snare or my hands... but don't take any lobster by hand unless it is easily bigger than the limit, as the extraction process can be a bit rough. I still have a freezer filled with them from my last trip down south. There are several parts to catching them... 1. Knowing where they hide. 2. Knowing how to see them. 3. Knowing how to use the snare 4. Getting them in the bag without loosing them. 5. When all of the above fails, knowing how to catch with hands. They are not this easy...oh, and don't try catching one with bare hands: ![]() |

I think yall are all forgetting one of the most important things. You need a lobstering LICENSE in order to go lobstering. They have been fairly strict this year in checking for them and if you get caught without the license you can get in some trouble. You have to get a fishing license first and then the lobstering on top of it, but its all <$20 and can be done online. Just make sure to take your temporary license with you!!
