was wanting to get in to free diving but wanted to know how to start training for it

I did a little web seach for another thread about breath holding. this site looked like a good one to start with: ImpulseAdventure - Freediving - Apnea / Breath-hold Diving

Isn't free diving pretty dangerous? Since the risk of blacking out is pretty high if you don't know what you doing or make a mistake?
