Sri Lanka
I'd be very interested to hear if anyone gets to dive Sri Lanka, specifically the Hikkaduwa area in the South West of the island. My family was there in July of 2004, but the diving in that corner is not good good that time of year. Due to a temporary cease fire between the LTTE and the government, however, the route up to Trincomalee in the North East was fairly safe and we were able to stay at a resort there. We did get in one day's diving and it was horrible. The viz was terrible and the reefs have been decimated by dynamite fishing/harvesting. I think coral is used in road building in the country, but not sure.
I'd love to go back and knowing that at least one part of the island had good diving would make it even better. |
