Seriously Larry
How about a Scubatoys East right here in Jacksonville Florida... I don't have a ton of dive experience, but I do have tons of retail management experience, and I'm certainly willing to learn!!!! Just imagine linked inventories, reduced shipping times for the east coast, It'll be great, and Jax is growing like crazy....We're on the coast with the most extensive artificial reef system in the country, hour and a half away from world premier cave diving, weekend trips to the Keys, c'mon man, if you treat your employees anything like you treat your customers I'll gladly work for ya.............
I know I'm just dreamin' here, but that's what vacations are for, so there ya go....

We thought about trying to open more locations - but every time I crunch the numbers, it doesn't make much sense from a business standpoint. Twice the over head, and you would not get twice the business. It's just too easy to have everything under one roof.
Besides, the cloning experiments are not working out all that well.... we keep getting an evil Joe when we try! Oh.. maybe it is working! Last edited by ScubaToys Larry : 08-03-2007 at 12:00 PM. |

The Dallas locations could continue handling all online sales so other locations would only need an inventory level sufficient for walk-in sales. As for cloning, that's a matter of finding good people and training them and instilling your philosophy in them. Or perhaps it could be set up as a franchise type of thing.

I agree with Larry from business stand point having a second location does double you overhead, as you do have to replicate everything and the product they are selling is not like a fastfood that people want it right away, I mean worst cast if they do have to ship overnight then its still cheaper.
Now the other side of the coin is some people do like to feel and touch gear before they would buy. Then question is location, so some place in Florida…. Which is already swamped with dive shops, I don’t know much about NY, I have never dived there or know any body talk of diving in that area. There can be location but I m not a dry suit diver so there could be locations, where I can’t go, then LA same thing I don’t know if they dive in there locally or they come to south to dive. So ROI would be real slow…..my guess… |
