Great Dive This Weekend
I had a great dive this weekend at the Crosby Mines in Minnesota.
Being newly certified a month and a half ago, and only having experience diving in lakes at relatively shallow depths, I was a bit nervous about a) spending a lot of time below the thermocline, where the water was in the low 40's, and b) where the bottom was "beyond recreational limits". The guy I dove with (who is on this board, but I think likes to keep a low profile most of the time) was great. This is my second time diving with him, and both times I had an excellent experience. He's far more advanced than I am, but very patient with a rook like me, who has 60,000 questions. In addition, he's happy to share information, tips and tricks and stuff he's learned along the way. He's great to dive with, and I've had a great time both times. The best thing though is that I can concentrate on the dive and improving my skills instead of worrying about whether or not I'll be f'ed if I get into trouble, because he's a very able diver who has learned by actually diving instead of in a classroom. So thanks again, J... and that's three air fills I owe you now (and probably another $10 for gas)! Hopefully I'll be able to get you back in September at Superior. ![]() |

Yeah, a good buddy makes for a far more enjoyable dive. Glad you had fun.
Someday, soon, you'll be the experienced diver taking the new rookie out.

Awesome you had a good dive this past weekend. Diving with an experienced buddy is always good especially if they are patient and willing to answer your questions. Looks like you found a good dive buddy.

I can relate... My instructor is a wreck diver with thousands of dives & I actually go through less air when I dive with him as my buddy. I guess it's because I am a little more relaxed knowing whatever happens, he's probably seen it before...
