Smile Love the Diving Community

My DB had to cancel for the weekend but i had the itch bad so i figured i'd take a chance. I went to the Beaver Lake diving hot spot this morning to see if there were groups i could jump in with and i had no problem finding anyone. First people i found was a couple from Kansas City and they were more than fine with letting me go. We did 2 dives off of 1 AL80 tank and they were done but i had one more tank left. Asked another group if i could go and they said sure, but they were doing deep dives so couldn't go with them, got some complements on my Zeagle stiletto though . Next group i asked, another group from Kansas City, let me go with them and a diver even needed a buddy so worked out well. They showed me the trail of "wrecks" there so really happy went with them.

Turned out to be a great day for diving, glad the majority of the diving community is so friendly. Hope i can get another dive buddy or two in the area so i don't have to worry about finding random people, but at least i know that usually won't be a problem.

I've done that same thing in a great number of places I found myself. One time, I was talking about wanting to dive but didn't have my gear with me. Within 10 minutes, I had a full set of gear to use and did 4 dives with a group from upper Michigan. I had a similar thing happen when I was 16 and visiting relatives in Baraboo, WI, walking around Devil's Lake. Part of me thought that they didn't believe that a young pup like me was a diver so they wanted to see me have to back down. That too was a great dive-cold but great.

Glad to know you had a good day Vlane!

Never had that experience to new to diving and husband or DM have always been my dive partner. My husband has had great luck finding pick-up trips and buddies. Divers and bikers are usually some of the nicest people.

You're lucky then. I'm trying to get my girlfriend into diving but she just left for some study abroad so have to put that off for another month. Even after she gets certified i don't know how much she'll be able to get out without her own setup. I need to graduate already so i can get her and i both some shiny new stuff!

I do a lot of solo trips and my friends always ask who are you going with to which I reply "A bunch of friends I haven't met yet". Divers always seem to be friendly lot.

Beaver Dam at North Park. If you're coming from highway 62 direction it's right before you reach the dam and then a little ways after that turn. I've already had on PM about diving with someone this saturday and if my usual DB can't make it to finish my AOW cert then you'd be more than welcome to come along.

Cool, buddy. I'd like to dive, but this Saturday will be tough. However, let me know if you are up for Sunday.

After May my Saturdays will ease up. So keep me in mind.

Thanks.

I travel around the world pretty much solo...what is fun is meeting up with some of the people I have dove with in North Carolina, Palau, Galapagos etc...and running into people I have dove with before somewhere like Lembeh Straits.....I always look forward to meet new dive buddies wherever I go!
