BTW,

Scubatoys has free software to help you learn the dive tables.

You can find it here.

It's a good way for kids (or anybody for that matter) to get better with the tables.

PC only unfortunately. Still, if that's how you roll, a nice app for sure.

That was how I FOUND Scubatoys!! I was stationed in Honduras studying for my OW Cert. I did a google search for Dive table tutors, and Lo and Behold ScubaToys was found

The only problem with the tables is when you haven't used them for a long time, then you come back to them and it confuses you. After about 5 minutes everyone should be fine with knowing how to use them.

Thanks for posting about the dive tables. I was having trouble on my last dive (which technically is my first dive w/o instructor) so hopefully with a few more under my belt it will be a breeze!

Before a trip, I always brush up on my tables using the Scubatoys software...it's good if you're getting ready for a Nitrox certification too.

I learned on and always used the tables. But my two sons just got certified this summer and part of their package was this little calculator thing called a RDP (recreational dive planner i think). No tables as such, just plug in the numbers, even for multiple dives, and it spits out NDLs, etc. Personally, I like the tables better since they their batteries don't run out.

And that's the best thing about tables: They don't run on batteries. I'm not saying I want to work on a full set of problems at 120', but then again, maybe a fun little test.
