If the compressor looks in good shape and the filters look good, then it's good to go!
that's good advice and i'll be doing the same from now on ..

one thing though, there is still about 60 bars in each of our tanks..
empty all the bad air at the shop and then refill immediately
or is there some sorta special procedure?
I wouldn't even think twice about removing the valves for inspection. You need to know if was exhaust fumes or compressor oil. The compressor at my LDS had a check valve failure and pumped out all kinds of oil. We had filled six cylinders, back to back, before realizing it. Just about ruined a cert trip, plus it caused me several hours of cleaning the tank interiors and valves with simple green.

Frankly, while I'm not sure of the situation with the shop that provided the bad fill, I'd let the shop know that they gave you a bad fill (or worse, more than one bad fill) and make them clean your tank, give you a free vis, and perhaps a couple free air fills (after resolving their compressor issues, of course) for your trouble.

more than likely, there was something wrong with their filter... a crack in the internal filters housing, improperly installed, or just completely used could all cause the potential issue you had...

thanks fellas
i'm off to my usual dive shop this morning to ask them to drain and refill my tanks and then it's off to the guys with the bad air.
As for asking them for free refills from them etc, i really don't want anything more to do with those guys.
thanks for all th advice
Mark

A trick someone showed me once (doesn't always work but if it does you have 100% proof of contamination) was to take a clean, white piece of cotton, cover the valve and open it up. Essentially, make the air go through the cotton. Check the cloth. If there is any sort of stain it is bad air.

Even if the cotton looks clean, there still might be contaminates in it, just not enough to be visible via this test.

I've been lucky to never have bad air. The only difference I've ever noticed was some air feels drier than other air. My LDS runs the regular air fills through the same filters they use for O2 fills (owner thinks this is best in case the customer wants to use the tank for O2, EAN and air; no need to O2 clean after an air fill). Even an air fill from my LDS leaves my mouth a lot drier than a fill from other shops but there is no taste difference.

It's not necessarily the compressor itself, but more likely the setup...air intake too close to the exhaust on gas driven systems...air intake too close to some other source of contamination on electric systems...etc.
Bingo, i think you're right...
it must'n be the compressor but the air intake
because this particular setup works like this
i take the tanks to the wharf where a little boat picks them up and goes to their main boat where they refill the air.
There are many, i mean many surrounding boats in very close proximity to where the refilling compressor is.
both my tank and my wife's tank are brand new, had a total of 10 dives with these tanks and this is the first time we've both experienced this sort of result from diving and it just so happens that this is the first time we've ever used this boat guy.
i'll have to go onboard the boat where they refill tanks and will update you fellas on what i find out.
thanks for the possible causes btw
haha. i agree with youSeinfeld dvd set

You've gotten some very good answers so far. I can see why you no longer want to associate with that shop anymore but make sure you call them and let them know about the bad fills. If I were you, I'd request a refund as well. If there is something wrong with their compressor, chances are they've had multiple complaints about it and hopefully they'll fix the problem and try to remedy the situation.
