looking for best hands-free Light

I need a good, economical, hands-free light. the OMS Ultra Bright Head Lamp really caught my attention, but was wondering what else is out there.
I'm no Techie, yet; I just need a good light to cut through some of this Lake Michigan gloom.

Why hands-free? Does a goodman handle suffice, like on a can light? That allows mostly free use of your hands. Head mounted lights aren't usually all that great. Less so for your buddy! Especially if you're considering going tech at some point.

A good HID can light is generally best for cutting a swath through the gloom. I recommend the 21w Salvo HID can light... but the 50w would be even better!

Check out the dive light x-tensions. Goodman mount at less cost than an HID.

I'm missing my left had at the wrist so my task loading is exacerbated; anything I can do to aleviate the problem. I'm not sure if the goodman handle would suffice or not but it does intrigue me.

I don't think a goodman would work, but you could probably adapt the idea to make a stable forearm mount.

I'm sure it will suffice. You have more of an arm than I do. I only have about 4 inches of "nub" (from my shoulder) and I use the goodman handle on a Salvo 10W HID. When I'm not using it to look around or at night and I need to look at my gauges, I wrap the light around my head and allow it to hang there. With that, I am able to see my spg and computer. I can either leave it there and grab it like a regular light and signal or look into stuff or I can unwrap it and put it back on my hand like normal.

If you want pictures (above water) I'll be glad to provide you some.

Michael

Salvo has gone over to LED lights now. They say they work better then HID. Certainly a lot less likely to fail and with a 50,000 bulb life it should for multiple lifetimes of active diving Salvo Diving Equipment - Rebel LED Lights

I've not seen one of these in use underwater yet but I do know that a pencil thin beem of LED light does cut through muck as well as anything can.

I chose the HID over the LED as the LED light only has a soft handle (elastic). It's be harder for me to take it off an put it back on with the elastic. The hard goodman handle it screwed tight and won't move.

Maybe the elastic would be better for the OP. It could be slipped onto his forearm. The elastic could be pulled tight enough and he'd really never "have to" take it off.

So I stand down on the goodman, in the OPs case, he has more arm than I do and it would "fit" for him for his issue.

Salvo has gone over to LED for their 10w class lights. (10w HID vs. 12w LED). At the 21w level (and above), Barry says the HID is still the way to go, although they sell the LED version for those who are willing to take less light in return for the LED advantages.
