I'd also be interested. I've looked at several of the "Drop In Replacements", but never found 1 that was the same diameter as my rat light.

Well, it isn't the same diameter as the OEM modules; a little smaller but it works.

I'm thinking about making a batch of these to sell, would any of you guys be interested?

You can't argue with the size issue, but bear in mind that it's not a backup for a recreational primary, it's a backup for a HID canister light.

Do you have a link to what you ordered?

I agree. A backup light designed for technical diving in most cases makes an excellent light for recreational diving. I have a Salvo Rat light, and I took it on all my dives. But my Oxycheq light is the light I take now.

The word "leary" does not mean that it can not work, it means that I am going to see how bright it is before I consider it for a "primary" light. And just for a measure here, I am talking about a primary light good enough for cavern, not for open water diving. If all I needed was a light for open water, then my PCm lite is fine, tied into my BC pocket.

I would beg, borrow or steal the OxyCheq Raider I and see if it's tight beam works well enough for you. It may be too tight. Other than that issue, it seems tailor made for your list of needs... it even has the soft goodman "light sock" option to make it hands-free.

If not, if you're not in a big hurry, I agree waiting for the next round, the Raider II or III, might be better for you than other lights currently on the market.

Honestly, it sounds like your needs would really be best met by the Salvo 12w LED can light. You say it's overkill, but I suspect that's because you haven't spent much time diving with one. Once you get used to them, they really become indispensable.

I have been diving with a buddy of mine who had a cannister light. And of course, my Cave instructor has the same. I mentioned this thread to him as well, and he was waiting to check out the OxyCheq series - the new II or III as well. So it looks like I will get to examine them when they come out.

He knows my current setup and the design I have in my head makes sense to him as well.

One of the periennial problems with diving is having too many things in your hands. So anytime you can design a way to remove some to fixed points, where they can be still useful is a good thing.

One I fixed as soon as I could was to go to a wrist mount, hoseless dive computer.

Until recently, my light solution worked well, I had the mounts on my camera strobe arms to put my dive lights in. When not using the camera, the lights had Brass snaps to hook off on d-rings. So I was set.

Now when adding Cavern diving, now we start to add another problem back into the mix - the reel.

And even worse - I got a scooter. I got light mounts to put on the scooter handle, and it works - sort of.

Still have to figure out how to handle everything on one dive.....
