It Would be good to have depth rating.
There are a lot of dive lights out of china that are rated IPX8, if IPX8 is suitable for diving then this opens up a whole new range or dive light product on the market that are currently not listed as suitable for diving. |

A lot of those lights, while they might be IPX8 rated, might not have a double o-ring to resist leakage at deepter depths that just "submerged". Also, some lights have push-button switches that the pressure would push on (or off) when at depth. just something to think about. Back on the topic of the Dorcy light, I hope to get it wet tomorrow, but right now the air temps outside are about 45f.... Not all that cold, but Brrrrrrrrr when it comes to diving... |

Well I wasn't able to go the day they went, but someone else who was interested in this light took it to the local quarry to dive with it recently.
The quarry is only about 45 feet deep, but no leaks or problems after using it for a couple dives of close to an hour. While this isn't an "extreme depth" test, it'd definately deeper than just "immersion". If you want to read his full review, see post #10 of this thread Dorcy brand dive light. Anyone used them? - ScubaBoard BTW... I've replaced the lanyard that came with it. but on a home made one, which I didn't like and soon replaced with a much better one. still need to post some pics of it... |

My two come in next Tuesday. I would like to replicate what you did or similar. On another note, I emailed the company, and they don't have any plans to release any more dive lights - yet.

You'll find Dorcy lights at a lot of big-box stores around the country. They make a ton of models for regular, air environments, but only one for underwater related activities.

Whoops... I'll try to get some pics in the next day or so. but basically here is what I did. I just used some basic cave/wreck line, about 8" of surgical tubing and a snapbolt. I ran the line through the small hole in the surgical tubing. this required a little liquid soap as "lube". Then I had to wash/rinse the soap out and let the line dry overnight. The about 8" of surgical tubing came together to make a nice wrist lanyard when the two ends were brought together. I tied an overhad knot there (I think). I then added the snapbolt tieing it on with a "larks head" (knot). I then tied to the light endcap double looping it and then tieing off with a square knot. I melted the ends and then melted the knot to add some strength. I'll try to get up pictures by the weekend. Some folks might like it this way, some might not. The lanyard portion is purely optional, but I don't mind having a snug lanyard on a light to hang onto. the snap-bolt is for snapping it to my harness when not in use. (so not to have to climb a dive boat ladder with light in hand banging the rail, etc). Quote:
I've got one of the smaller "land" lights (1watt) and I like it a lot. pretty usefull light. |
