Can Light Rigging...

I just got my new Salvo 12w LED light and I was looking for suggestions on attaching bolt snaps to the light head for attaching to my d-ring when not in use... I am looking for suggestions on using 1 or 2 differnet snaps, Placement of them, and how they are attached...

Any info is greatly appreciated...

Thanks

Phil

Is that the one with the soft goodman? I'd need to see a good shot of it. The Salvo website product shot is obscuring a critical part of the handle, so I can't see where I'd want to attach it.

If it's a hard goodman, no prob, I have some good shots somewhere around here.

It is the soft handle... The handle jsut clips to the light head (as I am sure you know). My wife should be getting discharged from the hospt tomorrow and I will take a pic of it when I get home.

Thanks

Phil

There's a deep groove at the rear of the light head, just in front of the metal fitting to the cord. You can secure a bolt snap there with cave line. Since the Goodman handle isn't attached solidly to the light head, but clips in, a snap attached in the standard position could leave the handle attached to the D-ring with the light head lying on the deck when it pops out, which it will. I have a couple of loops of shock cord around the light head and Goodman handle to minimize the chance of that happening, but I still don't trust it. It's a nice lightweight light for travel, but I wouldn't recommend the light to anyone else because of that bogus clip-on handle.

You can get a rigid Goodman handle from Salvo which still clips on, but is nicer to switch from hand to hand than the elastic one.

I would attach the clip to the handle so that when the head pops out you wont loose the handle...

I would use a small SS boltsnap using cave line to attach to where the elastic passes through the handle.

You really do need to do something to semi-permanently attach the handle to the light head, because that pop on bs is no good. My friend uses some bungee that runs from one side of the handle and over the light head to the other side. You could probably use a SS hose clamp to secure it really nicely, and that would also give you a really good way to attach the boltsnap (run a piece of line under the hose clamp, around the snap, and back under the clamp with knots tied on the loose ends).

I like the idea of the SS hose clamp--I just ordered some from McMaster-Carr to try out. If it works out, I'll send the rest of the package to Salvo for them to play with and maybe fix this problem once and for all. It is a very nice light for travel, although I took my big 21W light to Mexico last week with no particular problem in my carry on. The TSA people were curious, but reasonable.

another way to do it would be to attach the bolt nap to the cord with cave line. Tie it just behind the light head. I've seen many done this way, I will try and find a pic for you and post it.

The hose clamp seems to work well. I used a 1 9/16"--2 1/2" (40-64 mm) 316 stainless steel clamp from McMaster-Carr.

yeah ive seen light tied behind the light cone before (I think the 21w salvo hid has a big one, not sure about the salvo 21w led, the 12w I know has a rather small head) only downside to it when I did it, and it really was a bad downside was it was on a dive rite h10 adjustable focus, and if you dont really tighten down the plastic screw that locks the adjustable reflector, the reflector will slip off, then the line will slip off also and the light head will drop, thankfully I caught the light before it hit the ground, because I wouldnt have been suprised if the bulb had broken.

Thanks for all the suggestions... Sorry that I did not get any pics up, things have been pretty crazy around my house with the new twins still in the hospital... Hopefully sometime soon I will be able to get this light in the water...

Thanks again...
