Salvo 21W HID vs. Dive Rite 24W HID
Trying to figure out which one to buy. I dive in the merky waters of Lake Michigan, SO with that said I am not considering LED.
Interested to know what dive light you would choose. I am considering: Salvo Havoc 21W HID Li-Ion (10.4A) ------- 1350.00 Dive Rite 24W HID -------- 1249.00 IF YOU THINK I SHOULD BE CONSIDERING OTHER CANISTER LIGHTS, I WOULD LIKE TO HEAR YOUR OPINIONS. |

I own and Dive the Salvo their customer service is awesome. and I bet if you call Larry or Joe they can order you the Salvo 21w. Then you can get your 10% for being a member of this board. I have not Dove with the Dive Rite light but when I was Can light shopping I played with one and just felt the Salvo was a better design, and with their service they won me over. I had a 10W for my son and he was having issues with the light cutting out. I called and they sent him a new light so he would have it for a dive trip we had planned. When we got back we sent in his old one and got a call explaining what the problem was.

When I can afford it I'm looking to buy the 21w Salvo HID. Looked at a bunch of canister lights, and theirs truly do seem the best combo of customer service / features / good design.

Great choice in BP/Ws. I only dive DSS BP/Ws.
As for the light, I had the small meek (not really) Salvo 10watt HID. LOVED IT! I had to sale a bunch of gear and it was one of them.... I'll now save up for the 21watt as well. Can't go wrong with it. Michael

So, have you saved up yet? By the way, I own the Dive Rite 24 Watt HID and IMO it's a beast of a light. Very tough and I doubt you could ever hurt it. IMO it's one of the best lights out there. Customer service is also very good and I'm positive you'd have good luck should you encounter a problem.
They also sell parts to customers if you so desire. My only issue, I've had mine long enough and used it enough that I've got to get a new battery pack since mine doesn't stay lit as long as it used to. $250, but I'm thinking I'll build one to replace it, should be easy enough.

I wonder if the 24 HID Dive Rite has a banana plug connection like the Salvo or if it´s the same plugging like the 10 watts HID Dive Rite? I always had problems on all my 10 W HID with the plugging, the wiring inside the canister gets too crammed and it cuts the cable very often, resulting in failure, and it can happen just before the dive while closing the lid.

I had the 21W Dive Rite briefly. the lighthead seemed pretty tough (aluminum construction) but I wasn't too impressed with the build quality generally (flexy, exposed reflector, two-piece canister construction). The Salvo/Halcyons really seem to be in a different class.
I think the DR 24w uses trailer plugs on free wires, not banana plugs. BTW, someone was trying to sell a DR 24W HID on TDS this week for $400. No takers as of today, so I think it's getting put on ebay. |

I did end up getting the 21w Salvo, and love it. It's a big, bad light, and will cause divebuddy envy!
I really like the new design too with the sealed battery compartment. When you get done using it, pop the lid and rotate 180 degrees - disconnects the battery and locks the probes in a travel position so the light can't accidentally turned on. Nifty =) -B
