best compact primary under $30
Only do a night dive once a year or so- usually in clear caribbean or hawaiian water-reef dives mostly. I don't do wrecks, caves, or anything over 80 ft. It would be mostly used during the daytime to look under dark ledges and such and for the occasional night dive. I want something super compact. I have a princeton tec blast which is a great little light for clipping to your hat for night hikes and such, and I loaned it to a friend to use when we went for a night snorkel and it worked decent. For a tiny light that cost less than $10, it impressed me.
So whats the best compact primary light for under $30? |

That's great for cold water dives, but he said he usually dives the carribean.
OK, I'll be serious for a moment . . . but just for a moment. Plan on spending in the $50 to $60 range for a light that won't let you down. There are some decent lights in the $30 range, and most are backed with a warranty. The bad thing is, you'll probably have to use that warranty. I have an Oxycheq Raider 1 that I think you can get for under $60 from Scuba Toys. It's very bright & used cheap AA batteries. It has 2 O-rings, and is made of aluminum, not plastic. It may have too narrow a beam for what you want, but that's up to you. Many people are buying the new Dorcy lights, and they also seem to be a good solid light. If you read through the postings under "LIGHTS", you should be able to find something worthwhile. Sorry that I couldn't help with 1 in your price range.

Damn! Sorry. Multi tasking again. It worked for Frito and Spam in "Bored of the Rings" though.

i would suggest buying the UKSL4 incan for $20 from Scuba Toys and the single mode R2 led module for $10 from deal extreme. you will have to space the led module as its diameter is less than the incan module, to do this i just used some orings. you will also have to install the batterys in reverse and make sure the led modules outer spring makes contact with the bottom metal strap in the SL4 body to complete the circuit.
its output is over 200lumens with a run time of over two hours, was so impressed i put my UKC4 eled up for adoption. |
