Dorcy vs OxyCheq Raider 3

I am new to the boards (this is the reason I found/joined). I want to buy a primary light that mounts to the hand. I also don't want to spend $500+.

41-0467 180 Lumen Submersible LED Light
OR
OxyCheq Raider 3
OR
Cree XR-E (crappy battery life...can it be mounted on the oxycheq wrist device)?

Which is better?

Lumens: 180
Actual Brightness (judgement call)
Width of beam at equal distance:
Quality:

I am a recreational diver (started diving August 2008) about to take advanced/wreck diving cert. I did a cenote in January of 2009 and want to do more over-head dives.

Your help/comments are appreciated.

If you want a light that works, go with the Dorcy...

Oh, it's also cheaper.

I'm thinking the Dorcy, too... I'm going to have to pick one of these up at some point. Among other things, it uses AAA batteries instead of pricey cr123's. You can get rechargeable AAA batteries easily and inexpensively.

We recently surveyed the diving community within the Vercingetorix household; 100% of respondents went with Dorcy.

Statistics don't lie.

ROFL!!!

Good job, 90% of statistics are made up on the spot!

At the price of those lights you could buy one of each and do your own shootout like Vercingetroix and come up with your own stats.

All of those lights will work for OW, if you want something for overhead diving then you probably want to stick with the Dorcy as a back up.

Definitely depends on water clarity. Different types of water = different lights. Do your research before you buy. Read the Dorcy thread. It convinced me enough to buy one for my needs.

Has anyone who has a Dorcy run it on rechargeables? I'm wondering how much output and/or runtime will be lost compared to alkaline AAA's. I've only tried alkalines in mine. I do have a set of AAA rechargeables somewhere, but I'd have to dig to find them so I can try them.

Well I now own both light so I since I do own both of them I feel I can comment unlike some.

First the first Riders had a problem with wrong lens being installed in the first shipment and that has been fixed which caused the flooding. They are three o-ring seals two on the body of the light and one in the cap. They are very bright and I would guess probably twice as bright then the little Dorsey light. The Raider three has very tight light without much hallo, which can be advantage in low viz with penetration but not quite as useful in the clear waters. The Dorsey is much wider beam without as much penetration. I do agree on the batteries since the Raider three uses CR123 that I haven’t been able to find locally and the Dorsey uses standard batteries that is a big advantage. I do like the Raider’s magnetic switch and has work flawlessly and allows setting for high, medium, low and also strobe and SOS but I would suggest removing the battery for travel since they are easy to turn of and on. Also you can turn the Raider light off and on in the hand mounted sock with one hand without a problem.
