Boat Lights

Does anyone know where I can get the red / white / red light for night diving? I would like to have my boat marked since the ppl here have no clue about diving. Has anyone ever made one of these lights?

You boat should already have them on. They are required equipment-USCG and pretty much all 50 states.

Bass Pro shop has a light that can be clamped on a boat that meets the minimum requirement for a boat over 16' underway: Bass Pro Shops Search Results

This is only one option, I'm sure a local boat shop can help you out as well.

At anchor or non-motorized baot needs a white light that can be seen in a 360 degree circle for 2 miles at anchor or underway at night. So any coelman type or battery type lantern would suffice.

For night diving, I would put a light below your flag that shines up on it so there can be no question.

The Navigation Rules require that a recreational boat engaged in diving activities, scuba or snorkeling, at night, requires that red over white over red 360 degrees lights be displayed. This is addressed in COLREGS Rule 27 (d) A vessel engaged in dredging or underwater operations http://www.navcen.uscg.gov/mwv/mwv_f...s/navrules.pdf

These all around (360 degree) red and white lights are available at any boat supply dealer and should be switched together to obtain the red. white, red combination. Here's one online dealer All-Round Lights

Hope this helps.

Thanks Coastie, I may be making a mountain out of a mole hill here. The small lake I need this for rolls up the waves after dark. I figure better safe than sorry tho. Some local sherriff / water patrol may get upset if I dont have something.

Definitely better safe than sorry. I have certainly seen boats off the coast of Florida night diving without proper lighting, though every commercial dive boat I've seen displayed them. Glad to help.

Stay safe
