Every 2 years or when the warning goes, whichever comes first. For extended non-diving periods I remove the battery entirely. I have a spare battery and o-ring in my save-a-dive kit when I'll be away from civilization (i.e. more than 10-minutes from a Wally World!)

Depends on how long the battery lasts in a given device. If it's anywhere near low, of course you should change it before a big trip. Otherwise, why would you waste 1/2 of a perfectly good battery just because of an arbitrary date you made up in your mind?
I pretty much ignore it until it gets to around 1/3 remaining, then I start watching it closely, and making sure my local shops have appropriate batteries in stock. Of course, the batteries in the computers I use regularly tend to last 3-4 years without breaking a sweat, sometimes longer. |

Same here too. I keep a spare battery and tools in one of the pockets of my dive bag.
