I used to replace every year or 2 but now I wait until the warning. Seems there's still sufficient life at that point for me to finish out a dive trip, plus I dive with a backup anyway. I figure the less the thing is opened the better.

I wait for the warning of before a big trip-no sense risking a failure while diving in exotic spots w/o my PC to download the dives.

I wait until the warning but I always have a spare battery with me in case I get the warning while on a trip.

Every 2 years or when the warning goes, whichever comes first. For extended non-diving periods I remove the battery entirely. I have a spare battery and o-ring in my save-a-dive kit when I'll be away from civilization (i.e. more than 10-minutes from a Wally World!)

Depends on how long the battery lasts in a given device. If it's anywhere near low, of course you should change it before a big trip. Otherwise, why would you waste 1/2 of a perfectly good battery just because of an arbitrary date you made up in your mind?

I pretty much ignore it until it gets to around 1/3 remaining, then I start watching it closely, and making sure my local shops have appropriate batteries in stock.

Of course, the batteries in the computers I use regularly tend to last 3-4 years without breaking a sweat, sometimes longer.

Same here too. I keep a spare battery and tools in one of the pockets of my dive bag.

I keep a couple of spares in my dive bag in vacuum bags. When the low bat light comes on I change it.
