In retrospect, he really doesn't deserve a man card....not to mention no cajones of steel.

How about a new rating: A Man's Man Card? A Cajones of Titanium!

Nope He is a man I would love to buy a pint and shake his hand.

Of course, I do believe that this goes for anyone who has honorably served!

"Thank you for your service, here's your card and titanium cojones"...But I'm a girl..."No matter, you earned em, let's go share a couple of pints! "

Service = earned Man Card?

Merely having served does not neccesarily qualify someone for the Man Card. Unfortunately, I know plenty of people who served entire tours in an OFFICE, never once leaving the wire. These seem to also be the people who tell "war stories" in bars about how bad-assed they are, and who get Combat Action Badges because a mortar landed on the FOB near thier office. Definately do not deserve titanium cajones, let alone the Card. It would diminish the value of it.

That being said, SGT Nichol earned his.

Actually, I was a REMF...Served in the Surgeon's Cell with I-MEF. That said, I went outside the wire on numerous occasions. I took my job very seriously and on a number of occasion drew fire for taking my job seriously. I will admit I never fired a round, though there were a number times I was fnger on trigger and damn glad the firefight didn't happen. But I do know what IED's and close air support feel like (Feel, not sound), what a Silkworm missle sound/feels like when it hits. I also won't get into the emotions felt when a frantic messge to find 14 marines and sailors "NOW!!!" came in...

I will still stand by my statement that having served gives you a man card, no questons asked. No matter what the motivations, it takes cajones to stand up and volunteer...get through boot and serve.What you do with it after that is the measure of the man.
