My daughter (not my idea), obtained her learner's permit the very day she turned 15. 1 year to the day she tested and received her license. All within the minimum time frames. She did not allow any grass to grow under her feet.

Two weeks ago at the ripe old age of 17 and half, she and 3 girl friends took of for an over night trip to Orlando for Holloween Horror Nights at Universal studios.

2 1/2 hour drive on the turnpike, interstate and real city traffic. I was a basket case for 24 hrs.

It was worse than when I turned her over to this man

for her 4 ocean dives when she was certified. The Scuba Club, where she did her open water does not permit parents on the boat or in the water with their kids. They don't want the students distracted.

Sorry about Dad. I was thinking similar thoughts of family members having to say goodbye to their sons & daughters on the news tonight with the looney killings at the U.S. base in Tx.
Loony killings? I am sure he had his wits about him. What we experienced was a good ol fasioned jihadist slaying. Was 9-11 "loony killing"?
When will this country wake up?
A lunatic is a commonly used term for a person who is mentally ill, dangerous, foolish, unpredictable,: a condition once called lunacy.

I'm not sure what you don't like about wiki's definition. Perhaps you did not know DANGEROUS and UNPREDICTABLE are included in looney (lunatic).Or maybe you are a physician and have already determined his mental state?

I would have definitely called him dangerous which was all I needed to use the word since I'm not qualified to determine his mental state. I think it was also unpredictable as to whom he killed.

Concerning public opinion: The main thing I don't like seeing is his smiling picture all over the internet/TV/& Newspapers. I think this will motivate more of his kind to follow in his footsteps. I think a disfigured image of him would have been much more appropriate or a picture of him after being shot/bleeding/in ICU/ etc..

Man, I am telling you!

I had someone in the car call me at key milestones while they made the trip.

One of the other girl's dad's was up there with the younger sister and her girl friends. He met them at the hotel and checked them in. He reported and I slept. Then, next day repeat.

At least I can feel a little confident. Less than a year she is off to university.

Wow this described my wife being able to win in Tennis & running but choosing not to on two occasions against other women:Women's testosterone levels also rise when there's competition on the line, but the actual act of winning—or, for that matter, losing—doesn't have any effect on the levels either way. It's the game, not the outcome, that makes the difference for women.
Why Teens Do Stupid Things
teens are more likely to ponder the risks, take longer (about 170 milliseconds more) weighing the pros and cons of engaging in high-risk behavior than adults -- and actually overestimate the risks. It's just that they often decide the benefits -- the immediate gratification or peer acceptance -- outweigh the risks, says Valerie F. Reyna, professor of human development at Cornell.
The researchers found that while adults scarcely think about engaging in many high-risk behaviors because they intuitively grasp the risks, adolescents take the time to mull over the risks and benefits.
September's Journal of Experimental Psychology: Applied, she found that doctors make better decisions by processing less information and making sharper black-and-white distinctions among decision-making options. "This leads to better decisions, not only in everyday life but also in places like emergency rooms where the speed and quality of risky decisions are critical," she said.
Marginal Revolution: Why do the young take more risks?

Why do men take such dumb risks?
the male risk problems, but one useful approach may be to look for controlled-risk activities that get the adrenalin going while giving a guy a decent chance of surviving to do it again. I'd put technical mountain-climbing, flying a small plane and skydiving in that category. I've done two out of three of those and enjoyed the rush.
Flying a small plane is way safer than driving. You are more likely to get hit by lightning than have an accident in a small plane.

BTW- where do you do your EMT stuff. My fiance is an EMT in Texas. She is also an avid diver.

So...you think your college daughter is hot? Please post pictures.

On another matter:
Here's a young lady who recently passed her written driver's test...on the 950th attempt. Now comes the driving test.

Woman passes driver's exam on 950th try

So yeah, I probably should say this...

My off season job is picking up corpses from the M.E. I see roughly 3-4 horrific car accidents a week varying between alcohol related, stupidity related, and other people being stupid related.

Now yes, I'm guilty of excessive speeding, not wearing a seatbelt, zig zagging out of traffic (but ironically I always leave myself a large buffer zone for this - I figure I wanna strangle people who cut directly in front of you, so why do it to them?) Anyway! It all boils down to this. I've ALWAYS driven this way. I have driven well over 500,000 miles so far (I've had a lot of jobs involving driving) in all kinds of conditions - Blizzards, sand storms, torrential rain. It's simple, I don't use the phone while driving, I pay attention to everything around me, and I go like hell. I could be setting myself up for disaster, but eh, I guess I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.
