Friom what I know, Sable island is one of the Atlantic hotspots for Great whites. It has quite a large seal population which attracts the sharks. The most probable reason they have not tagged GWs with these tags before is the price. There transmitters cost a lot of $$, and so does the whole tagging effort (boat, crew, gear, etc...). Shark science isn't generally a high priority since there is no industry associated to them. Much more $$ is spent on fish stocks assesments et research. It's too bad really. We have a lot to learn about the guys!
