Question Pocket Snorkels

On a couple posts here, I have seen alot of people talk about the different pocket snorkels. So, what brand are you guys diving? I really want to ditch my snorkel, but want to have a backup "just in case".

We have Avid folding snorkels, but I believe they aren't produced anymore. Oceanic has a roll up one that's kind of cool, but a lot of folks just buy a super cheap, flexible snorkel and fold it themselves.

I have two pocket snorkels, depending on conditions. If it seems highly likely I'll actually end up needing a snorkel, I'll bring the Oceanic Pocket Snorkel. It's the best, most normally-performing pocket snorkel out there. You hardly know it's a pocket snorkel, it works so well. It doesn't fold up as well, however.

Normally, to save pocket space, I use the ultra-tiny, very inexpensive, Tilos Pocket Snorkel. All silicon, so it rolls up very compactly, but not as nice when actually using it. Still, better than nothing in a pinch, and it's small enough to bring on every dive.

I have a Tusa Platina II, which is very pliable, and I am able to fold it in half and stick in my pocket.

I've found the cheap pocket snorkels are really not worth having... Oceanic makes a pretty nice one:

But really, the most comfortable snorkel that is a great snorkel is the Tusa: http://www.scubatoys.com/store/detai...latinahyperdry and because this snorkel is made from polyurethane instead of plastic, you can fold that baby up anyway you want, and it won't leave creases.

This is the nicest snorkel with the best mouthpiece I've ever used... very sweet.

I agree with everything you just said.

(Except I still like the super-small-if-crappy one for my pocket when I don't anticipate needing one)

The funny part about this post is...I already own the Platina. Sounds like I just need to find a pocket to put it in.

If you only intend to have it along "just in case",
you can bungee a normal full sized snorkel to your BC
or your tank.

My wife has a Zena and I have a Brigade and we
mount our snorkels under the wings, between the
wing and harness. It lays flat behind you and you don't
even know its there.

To do this, I bought a few feet of 1/8" bungee
cord from REI (10 cents per foot) and a few spring
cord locks. (4 for $1).

You use two 6" pieces of bungee and 2 cord locks per snorkel.
The bungee is looped through the metal triglide
that holds the wing to the harness/camband.
Then stick both ends of the bungee through the cord lock.
Tie the ends in a knot so the cord lock doesn't fall off.

Then simply slide the snorkel through the 2 bungee loops
and tighten them to grip the snorkel. The mouth piece
should be at the bottom.
DONE!
Total cost about $1.50

You can loosen the cord locks to remove the snorkel or
if you are in a hurry and yank down on it, it will come free.

It can't be stored back into place without the help
of your buddy. So its not really great for snorkeling
out from shore but if you only intend to have it
"just in case", it works just fine.

I use the Aqualung Snap. It takes almost no space when folded.
