Going Crazy or Crazy Masks

The weirdest thing happened last week, I was using seagold as defog all week as I always do and my dive buddy who was new to diving used it as well. One of the other divers on the boat who was used to using spit wanted to try it out so she did. She prepared her mask exactly the same way we did, let it dry for the same amount of time and her mask fogged and ours didn't. Why do different things work differently for different people, I don't get it. Shouldn't something work or not and not be different for different individuals?

Or somehow the defog was rinsed out... sometimes people accidently rinse everything out as they're putting their fins on.

I like a 1/3 baby shampoo 2/3 water mixture. Put a little in, swirl it around, dump, and don the mask.

Lotsa times the mask is not prepped properly and scrubbed good before the defog is prepared. Or could be Neptune hates her.

I think new masks just like to fog up. After some time they don't do that.
I always rinse the mask. After kicking out past the surf I'l take my mask off and swish it around in the water or maybe just put my head under water and flood the mask. It never fogs up but them my mask is not new. It's been through a couple anual full disasembly clean and scrubs now.

If the mask fogs up durring a dive let some water inside and let it swish around on the inside of the lens wet glass never fogs -- Have you ever seen the outside of the lens fog?

My friend has some kind of defog, and every time I use it my mask fogs up.

Is her mask new? What I do with my new mask is wash it out with Comet, then use some toothpaste every week after that. When I first bought my mask a while ago (Oceanic Shadow), I didn't clean it, and it fogged up so bad. I think it has to do with the chemicals they put on the lens. I never had that problem to that extent with any other masks though (cheaper ones). After I cleaned it, everything was fine. I also spit before use.

"Defog" is just a cleaner. It doesn't stay on top of the lens and magically block moisture build up

So THAT's why it has the same consistency as dish soap! I thought it was odd that you were supposed to swish water around after you just coated the lens with it.

My dad bought me a TUSA Serene (in pink! I hate pink but love it for dive gear) for my birthday (I had been coveting it and it fit my face perfectly). I washed it off with face scrub. The kind with the exfoliating beads in it. I put a little bit of baby shampoo it and it doesn't fog for me, but it fogs up for my mom. Same mask, same defog, different person.
Weird.
